Power Query?
Claude in Excel does NOT directly control Power Query. The official Anthropic help center lists Power Query and Power Pivot as unsupported features. Claude can't open the Power Query Editor, add steps, or run queries inside Excel.
BUT — Claude can still help you write Power Query M code. You describe what you need, Claude generates the M code, and you copy-paste it into Power Query Editor yourself. For example:
"Write M code to merge Orders and Customers on CustomerID" → Claude gives you the M script
"Explain this M query step by step" → Claude breaks it down in plain English
"Convert this messy cleanup into Power Query steps" → Claude writes the transformation logic
So it's more like a coding assistant for Power Query, not a direct Power Query controller.
